To give Jasmine the best chance for success, Stromlo is providing access to its world-class facilities in the ACT, including the newly upgraded 24/7 gym, as she trains with the Woden Valley Swim Club in partnership with Belgravia Leisure at Stromlo’s pool.

Jasmine started swimming at just six months old, as her parents wanted her to be safe in the water. “I didn’t get competitive until after I acquired my brain injury. Initially, swimming was part of my rehab to rebuild strength. Once I started getting better, I realised I had potential and began competing from there,” she said.

Her track record is impressive, with multiple medals at the World Championships and a silver medal in the S10 100m Butterfly at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. At the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, she finished 4th in the S10 100m Butterfly and took 6th in both the S10 100m Backstroke and the 200m Individual Medley.

“The support from Stromlo has a huge impact on my training. It’s vital to have a supportive environment to succeed,” Jasmine said. “Stromlo’s facilities meet my needs and allow me to train at my best. I’m really grateful for the team here.”

“Having a silver medalist like Jasmine in our Squad Program is a huge asset,” said Yuriy, her coach at Stromlo, who has started working with her after Paris Paralympic Games. “Her determination motivates not only our Paralympic swimmers but the entire squad. She’s an incredible role model for everyone.”

Jasmine also highlighted how the support of her family and coaches has helped her juggle her training with other commitments.

“My biggest challenge has been balancing my swimming with my other aspirations. I’m at university and also work as an ambassador for the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation. It’s been a juggling act, but with the support of my family, coaches and network, I’ve been able to manage it all.”

Looking ahead to the 2025 World Championships, Jasmine has advice for young athletes with disabilities dreaming of competing at the top, “Never doubt your potential. Thanks to years of hard work by people with disabilities, there are so many opportunities now. Para sports are growing and the demand for athletes is high. It’s competitive, but if you’ve got the passion, there’s no limit to what you can achieve.”

Stromlo Leisure Centre is proud to be part of Jasmine’s journey and remains committed to supporting athletes of all abilities.

“By sharing Jasmine’s story, we hope to inspire others to pursue their health and wellbeing goals, no matter their background or abilities,” Samer concluded.
